Kona week and the big race day is probably the greatest event for the sport and the long distance triathlon community.
Kona 2016 is now over for another year with an amazing win for Jan Frodeno. HUUB was well represented in the finals this year with five HUUB supported athletes. Absolute triathlon legends Freddy Van Lierde, Cyril Viennot, Eneko Llanos, Kyle Buckingham and Harry Wiltshire were all on the start line and all with one thing in common.
We thought to ourselves, "what better place to debut the new HUUB Albacore Swimskin than at Kona on the backs of the Elite?" And what results we saw!
So Kona was a week that for HUUB was full of fun, catching up with our athletes, and a healthy dose of drama and action.
We are thrilled to also get our first “First out the water" in our history at the event when Harry Wiltshire was the first to emerge from the swim. Harry is an outstanding and gifted athlete. He has been with us since day one when we set up HUUB Design in a garage in Derby, UK with a clear vision and not a great deal of cash in our back pocket.
This year he delivered the “First out the water” in dramatic style; out-sprinting the Double World Champ Jan Fordeno and many time swim winner Andy Potts.
Another first for us, and for the world, was the First Lady ever to take the overall win in the Ho'ala Ironman Swim in Kona thanks to Lucy Charles, and thanks to her Albacore suit which she was quick to credit as having played a part in knocking a huge 3 minutes off her 2015 time. HUUBster Reece Barclay secured 3rd behind Lucy Charles in the Ho'ala Swim whilst Frederick Van Lierde took 10th position in the final on Saturday 8th October. So we had a great week.
We debuted the Albacore Swimskin by taking an extremely limited run to our stand at Big Island. So, as well as all of our athletes wearing them, a lucky few punters snapped them up too. Whilst we don't want to take anything away from our athlete's performances, we are quietly confident that it was a combination of the two working hand in hand that delivered such stunning results.
So raise a glass to this being the first of many. It is a truly proud moment for all of us in Derby and HUUBsters around the world working to spread the HUUB word.
So, our answer to the original question is that Kona is huge! But we'll leave Harry Wiltshire to tell you how big Kona is in this awesome video of the man himself in this most iconic of locations.
