The Brownlee Tri returned to the beautiful grounds of Harewood House in Leeds on Saturday, making it the fourth year in a row for the event and the atmosphere was incredible.
The races consisted of choice between a Sprint and Super-Sprint for individuals, ‘mates waves’, a youth/junior Super-Sprint, and a Sprint team relay. The aim by the brothers is to make the sport as accessible as possible to competitors and gives people a chance to race on the brother’s home training grounds. Past competitors have described it as "one of the best and most scenic" courses, and with good weather it was a fun day.
The two time Olympic brothers didn't race but they were there for the whole day meeting the competitors and spectators in the Entertainment Village where there was also a kids’ Duathlon.
The crowds gathered at the event were enthusiastic to meet the brothers, who spent much of their day appearing in selfies with fans, whilst taking time out to chat and encourage youngsters new to the sport.
Alistair and Jonny spent some of their time over at the HUUB stand where they signed autographs by the yard for excited fans that formed queues right across the venue waiting for their chance to meet the Olympians.
After Alistair’s actions to get brother Jonny over the line at the ITU Final at Cozumel there are many calls on social media to nominate him for Sports Personality of the Year. Here at HUUB Towers, we couldn’t agree more!
